2006 MINISTRY FOCUS

PROGRESS

Hebrews 5:14 - 6:1 Solid food is for those who are mature, who have trained themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong and then do what is right. So let us stop going over the basics of Christianity again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don't need to start all over again with the importance of turning away from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.

Sterling Lands II - Senior Pastor at GCBCDearly Beloved,

Our ministry focus for the year 2006 is progress. Our challenge this year is to move to the next level in the application of the Word of God in our every day life. Our thoughts must be authenticated through the Word of God. Our words should more and more reflect the Will of God. Our action should more and more coincide with the Work of God. Our attitude should increasingly reflect the Way of God.

Spiritual progress requires wholehearted commitment.
Remember Lot’s wife looked back as she was following along behind him and became a pillar of salt. She turned back to look at the smoldering city of Sodom. Holding to the past, she was unwilling to turn completely away. Are you looking back longingly at sin while trying to move forward with God? You can’t make progress with God as long as you are holding on to pieces of your old life. Jesus said it this way in Matthew 6:24: “You cannot serve two masters.”

Spiritual progress is a process.
In the Book of Numbers we learn that Moses recorded the Israelites’ journeys as God instructed him, providing a record of their spiritual as well as geographic progress. Review your track record, have you made spiritual progress? A record of your spiritual journey will let you check up on your progress and avoid repeating past mistakes.

Spiritual progress is dependent upon God.
Do you sometimes feel as though you aren’t making progress in your spiritual life? When God starts a project, he completes it! God will help you grow in grace until he has completed his work in your life. God won’t give up on you. He will finish the work he has begun. Don’t let your present condition rob you of the joy of knowing Christ or keep you from making progress.

Love Pastor Lands
