Dr. Mary L. Thomas has served as a member of Greater Calvary Bible Church for over 25 years. As a member, she used her educational background and access to resources to serve the church in various capacities. Most notably, she led the charge in pastoral appreciation as the chair of Pastor's Aid Ministry and as the church clerk. She served as facilitator and director of the Greater Calvary Rites of Passage Servant Warrior Leader Youth Development Process, where she mentored and guided our graduates to success. Dr. Thomas involved herself in the life of the church and was a servant leader who was always willing to serve. She will be missed but her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the work she did at Greater Calvary Bible Church.
Biography:
Dr. Mary L. Thomas has served as an educator since 1975. Her journey has traveled through the classroom as Pre-K Teacher through Doctoral Levels. She has served as secondary Assistant Principal and Principal. She entered as central office administrator developing methods to identify ethnic minorities for gifted and talented services. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Master of Science Degree in Special Education, General Education in Educational Administration. Her Doctoral Degree was conferred in 2001 in Education Administration and Supervision. Dr. Thomas is a servant leader with a wealth of volunteering to be the change agent for students, staff and community. A few of the agencies and organizations include: CASA Volunteer; Seedling Mentor; Texas Education Agency Title I Committee of Practitioners; Private Non-Profit Advisory Committee; She served for five years as the Secretary of the Association for Compensatory Educators of Texas. Dr. Thomas is the founding and organizing president of the Austin Area Alliance of Black School Educators, past President of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators and board member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators. She volunteers in numerous capacities at her church. She has received numerous awards from Phi Delta Kappa, NAACP, Commerce ISD Hall of Honor, Family Life International Character Who Cares and is acknowledged as one of 100 Top Leaders in Education by Education 2.0. Her passion is proven and provided by how she serves.
